Call for Submissions
Breathe is a new literary magazine that aims to discuss mental health and wellness in medicine. This magazine highlights visual art, poetry, and prose poetry from health care trainees (eg. medical student/resident/fellow, nursing student, PA student, PT/OT student, pharmacy student, etc) across Canada. Any form of literature/art from health care trainees related to mental health and wellness is welcome.
Submission Criteria:
Health care learner (e.g. medical student/resident/fellow, nursing student, PA student, PT/OT student, pharmacy student, etc.) at an accredited Canadian post-secondary.
Submission must discuss topics within mental health and wellness in medicine. Examples may include: personal struggles with mental health as a student, experiences in the clinical setting or classroom, a discussion about mental health stigma and the “hidden curriculum”, strategies for improving and maintaining mental wellness as a health care trainee. This is not an exhaustive list of topics we will accept, please use your discretion when submitting.
The piece must be original work and all contributors should be listed. Work should not be previously published. You will retain the copyright for your piece(s). You may wish to publish your work anonymously should you desire.
If submitting more than one piece, please submit each piece as a separate file.

Categories of Accepted Work:
Creative Writing:
Poetry, prose, short stories, reflections, essays, etc.
Maximum word count of 1000 words
All written pieces should be submitted in word document format, typed
Visual Art:
Drawings, paintings, sketches, digital art, photography
All visual art pieces must be submitted in high-resolution PDF, TIF, or PNG files
